The 23rd annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries

 

The Gane Trust Award for excellence in quality of design and craftsmanship was presented to Keith Tyssen FSDC

The Society of Designer Craftsmen Award for excellence in the work of New Licentiates this year was presented to Mauro Dell’Orco

The Pollie Weiss Prize, for the most exciting use of colour in textile work in this exhibition by a new Licentiate, was awarded and presented to Zoe Hillyard by John Weiss FSDC

The following new Licentiates were awarded Distinction for the work on display:

Everyday Encounters

The William Morris Gallery

The exhibition which is the result of a partnership between the Society of Designer Craftsmen and the William Morris Gallery is the second exhibition to take place following the major refurbishment of the Gallery.

It features works especially created for the exhibition by Adam Aaronson (glass), Judith Battersby (ceramics), Amy Cooper (ceramics), Sara Fell (glass and precious metals), Jenny Ford (textiles), Kirsten Glasbrook (textiles), Marion Hewitt (glass), Simon Jewell (furniture), Debbie Lyddon (textiles), Armando Magnino (furniture),  Peter Moss (ceramics), Amarjeet Nandra (textiles), Sandra Owens (ceramics), Sumi Perera (book art), Caroline Rees (glass), Niru Reid (textiles), Sally Reilly (ceramics), Rosalind Roberts (mixed media), Waring Robinson (furniture), Pam Schomberg (ceramics), Diana Springall (textiles), Kate Standen (ceramics), Teresa Strachan (textiles), Sass Tetzlaff (textiles), Susie Vickery (textiles), Jeanne Werge-Hartley (metalwork), Molly Williams (textiles), Stephanie Wright (ceramics).

The works encompasses functional and non-functional pieces using traditional and contemporary techniques in different media. This collaboration is of especial relevance to the Society. We are very proud of the historical roots that take us from the foundation of the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society to today, and we feel sure that our members work will validate the beliefs first expounded by Crane, Morris and their companions regarding the importance and relevance of the applied arts.

 The Gane Trust Award for for excellence in quality of design and craftsmanship

 was presented to Simon Jewell MSDC by Peter Metcalfe, Trustee of the Gane Trust.

Ken Stradling of the Gane Trust also attended the presentation of the award.

The Society of Designer Craftsmen Award  for excellence in the work of  New Licentiates this year

was presented to Nick Wolstencroft and Francesca Baxter-Hunter

The Pollie Weiss Prize, for the most exciting use of colour in textile work shown in this exhibition

by a Licentiate, was awarded and presented to Justyna Truchanowska by John Weiss FSDC

The Stephen Maer Prize was awarded and presented to Sass Tetzlaff by Janet Maer.
