For centuries the relationship between precious oils, their cultural significance, and the containers holding them have fascinated people. Now an arts show brings them together in a new context.

This show fuses modern fine art ceramics with the study of the seven centres of the body known as Chakras, that have a healing power. Sarah uses recognisable flower elements that are used today in many traditional and contemporary health remedies and skin creams. Her ceramic vase forms incorporate these elements.

The shapes echo ancient Roman perfume jars and bottles that held oils and precious ointments for beauty and cleanliness. There is a vase for each of the seven Chakras – energy centres in the body which affect our wellbeing. The pots are coloured with natural ochres/pigments, many of which are native to the UK.
